This is part three of our Waxing Lyrical series, you can read part one with Jay Tennant, here, and part two with Finding Bella, here…
Hailing from Manchester, Spangled dance on the fringe between jangly guitars and yesterday’s promises. The four-piece bounced onto the scene in 2019 offering an eclectic blend of witty, heartfelt lyrics, lively attitudes and punch-the-air riffs proving there is still decadence in youth.
Spangled encapsulate the essence of music through a melting pot of genres to create a truly unique sound, that’s both edgy and joyful. The birth of Cosmic Indie Rock.
I was lucky enough to catch up with them for a quick Q and A.
Firstly, many thanks for taking the time to chat, lets’s start by introducing yourselves to the masses by telling us how you got together.
Ben – Vocals
Jamie – Guitar
Nathan – Drums
Niall – Bass
We started sometime in 2019 at Ben’s house when Jamie brought his guitar round after the pair had joked about starting a band. After jamming and playing Supersonic several times (dreadfully they added) they thought f*ck it let’s give it a go. Jamie then got in touch with Nathan who he’d met briefly in another band and thought he’d be a great fit. It was just us three for a while jamming and searching for a bass player until one of our mates mentioned he knew a guy… And in stepped Niall to complete the lineup!
Whereabouts are you all from?
Ben and Jamie have grown up in Altrincham together just outside Manchester. Niall is from the Winslow area and Nathan is from Lowton, in between Warrington and Wigan (home of baldies pies, the happiest place on earth)
Who/what are your influences?
Everything. We’ve all got different influences which really helps creativity. Nothing’s off-limits I suppose. You could definitely say we’re influenced collectively by some of the best Manchester bands, The Stone Roses, The Smiths, Joy Division…
“Jangly lads yearning for space exploration”
Describe your sound for us…
Jangly lads yearning for space exploration – that kinda sound.
Can you tell me a little about what you have released to date?
We’ve released a few demo-style singles as we got going as a band that were just recorded in Jamie’s bedroom. But we recently dropped our debut EP in March which is the first chunk of tracks where we got to go and record them properly in a studio!
Where have you been gigging?
This time last year the answer was always Manchester but This Feeling put us on our first tour in February and it was unbelievable. Got to play packed-out shows from top to bottom of the country, hitting Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, London and Wigan!
Where can your music be purchased?
If you’ve got any spare change, get onto iTunes to buy our music as it helps our funds towards recording new music and touring etc., we’ll also try and get some physicals made at some point, stay tuned…
Where can gig tickets and more information be found?
Via our link tree in all of our social bios!

“Probably play on the moon”
What are your plans for the future?
Probably play on the moon or something like that, we’ve got a wild imagination. But we’re all about going bigger, better and louder.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Champagne Supernoodles!
Their debut EP, ‘Chasing Nebulas’ has been dubbed by This Feeling as one of the best EPs they’ve heard in years. So, I thought it would be a good idea to try and glean some more info about the single ‘Good Life Better’ from this cosmic release.
What’s the story behind it, what’s it all about?
Good Life Better – Single Version, is an adapted track from our debut EP. It’s a tribute to Ben’s dad John who we sadly lost last year at the IOW festival. It’s a song that means a lot to us and it’s just about those people in your life that make it worth living.
What were you aiming to capture within the track?
Togetherness
Where was it recorded/which label and any other info regarding production?
The Lounge Studio in Wigan with our wizard producer Gareth! He’s our right-hand man. Good Life Better – Single version will be the first track we’ve released on a label, and it’s none other than the newly founded This Feeling Records Label.
Where can it be purchased and in what formats?
Spotify, iTunes, Amazon music, the lot x
What’s in store for the future?
We’ve got several albums worth of songs in the pipeline. So yeh, we won’t be going quiet anytime soon!
Thanks very much, fellas, and good luck for the future!
