Hailing from Huyton, Liverpool, The Glass Skies combine the Indie sound of the north-west with a raucous Pop-Punk energy to form their unique sound. Formed in 2015 under their previous name Skylights, but this clashed with another band of the same name from Yorkshire. they have played hundreds of shows mainly around the north of England, including Noel Gallaghers high flying birds after show party in 2016, and since signing to Big Condo Records in 2021, they have reached their most successful point yet with their new single, ‘Sirens’ as well as announcing their first ever headline tour in October 2022.

The band consists of John Riley (vocals and guitar), Sonny Price (drums), Lachlan Challoner (lead guitar) and Ewan McClelland (bass). Their main influences are mostly Oasis, The 1975, Neck Deep and Catfish and the Bottlemen.
The song itself, Sirens, is their second single and was written about the feeling of meeting up with an old friend and seeing them unhappy at how life has panned out, and trying to help them through it. It was released on June 11th 2022.
It opens with swirling guitars and the gentle line “hey you, why are you drinking, what were you thinking when you left without a warning” before the rest of the band comes in, driven by a rolling drum groove with that delicious swirling guitar continuing underneath, a proper indie vibe.
“delicious swirling guitar”
The chorus really lifts the track, with a more definitive guitar riff, proper Britpop in tone and style, not Oasis per Se but its in there. I think the vocal really compliments the rest of the band, its not harsh but it has an air of authority, you could all most see him giving his mate a good talking to.
Tension builds in the mid-section, with a change in vocal tone “Only you can hear the sirens, I want you to change your mind” and then a glorious solo that lifts everything again.
After hearing their first release ‘Lovesick’ I was really looking forward to this track and it doesn’t let you down in the slightest, in fact it picks you up, gives your head a shake and gives you a bit of hope, at least I think so. I am already looking forward to seeing what these lads come up with next. Proper indie/Britpop, energy, melodies and simply great songs.
The song is available everywhere now, and its music video can be found on the band’s You Tube channel! The band themselves are on all social media channels, just search for @theglassskies
