Marseille are a young rock n roll band from Derby, England. Signed to ADR.

Will, Tom, Joe and Lennon play music reminiscent of the 60’s Merseybeat & 90’s Madchester scene with their own individual influences.

In 2021 despite Covid-19 disrupting the music scene. Marseille kept busy, releasing their debut single, aptly entitled ‘Worlds Gone Mad’ and 2 further releases ‘Shout it out Loud’  and ‘State of Mind’.

In 2022 the band upped the ante releasing She Knows A Place and Forget It All. From their EP ‘Marseille1’. Those tracks caught the eye (and ears) of Birmingham’s ADR Records and the band were promptly signed. ‘The Jungle’ is the bands 3rd release with the ADR label.

Marseille guitarist Joe Labram had this to say about the new single:

“The song derived from a jam session in Will’s bedroom when we were 13. When I came up with this killer bassline that we never really did anything with at the time.  Fast forward 4 years and now it’s back. With Lennon’s bass skills and fills and Tom’s rhythm sections we have taken that initial riff to a new level. Add to that Will’s improvised lyrics and some cool guitar and The Jungle was born’.

The new single will be released digitally on Friday the 15th of July, with a previously unreleased B-side. ‘The Universe Is Yours’

Having received a copy of this track I was excited to get it on and give it a blast, and blast it I did. The first thing I will say is that it’s so refreshing to have a band that isn’t scared of going against conformity and putting out a track that’s over nine minutes, yes, nine minutes in length. Along with that its over nine minutes of rhythm, melodies, funky bass lines and a really cool drum groove.

The first thing that hits you is the drum intro , then a grooving bass line that Mani would be proud of roars in, and both continue throughout the track, setting the pace and vibe for the rest of the band.  A Wah infused funky riff, crackles and rolls on and on. It’s got a real Madchester ‘ Stone Roses’ indie feel to it, and digs deep into the band’s influences, nothing wrong with that!  It’s filled from top to bottom with riffs, hooks and fills that leaves you lost in a jungle of melodies; do you really want to find your way back. I don’t.

“A Wah infused funky riff, crackles and rolls on”

Having listened to their previous releases, a lot may I add, this band continues to amaze me with the variety and diversity in the tracks they put out,  every track has a different vibe, feeling, from guitar driven tracks like ‘shout it out loud’ and ‘Might as well be mine’ to the more subtle tracks like ‘Forget it all’ and ‘worlds gone mad’ then we have this one, different again but equally if not better than previous tracks. It’s a real floor filler, a summer anthem. I have to say that this 9minutes of rhythm soaked heaven is the quickest 9 minutes you’ll hear. As the lyrics suggest:

“Come on have some fun with us tonight”

and why not!

The ’B side’ ‘The Universe is yours could quite easily be the A side, another storming, uplifting guitar infused anthem. Different again from ‘The Jungle’ and more in line with previous tracks but again shows their skills as an accomplished band, a band for today. The vocal on both tracks, is note perfect, almost dreamlike, a great tone that suits the instrumental 100%. I cannot recommend this band enough. I have no doubt that Marseille will take the UK music scene by storm. Bring on the album I say. This band just gets better and better.

See for yourself here!
