New band on the scene, The Conflux began writing in music in 2019, however they didn’t play their first gig until October 2021 where they won a battle of the bands competition at the old fire station in their hometown of Carlisle after playing just four songs.
After meeting up at school, Josh, Alfie, max and Leon practiced in the school music rooms before moving to Josh’s garage where they still practice. According to Josh, they play and write alternative indie songs taking influence from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Queens of the Stone Age, Franz Ferdinand and The White Stripes.
Their last gig was at the Dalston Festival back in August and are currently looking for more slots in the coming months. Their first single ‘She Keeps Me Going’ was released in February followed by a four track EP entitled ‘The Short Straw’ released in June. They hope to recording and releasing more tracks next year.
“Melodic lead riffs that leap”
She keeps me going opens with a fast paced, deep reverberating bass line before overdriven guitars jump in and snarl at an energetic rock infused drum pattern. Driven by this pounding drum and bass line the whole track is lifted by melodic lead riffs that leap out between the vocals. Its loud, brash and in your face…but that’s good.
“Overdriven guitars jump in and snarl”
Strong vocals, add an air of intrigue in the way they are delivered, again frenetic but confidently keeping pace with the rest of the band. Influences can be heard but in a subtle way, creating their own sound and running with it. It’s a strong start for these lads.
“It screams energy”
I do like the driven guitar sound, its raucous, it has an almost punk feel to it, no nonsense, honest but most of all it screams energy. The song keeps building throughout in both pace and sound, interrupted by short descending solos giving you a chance to draw breath before we are speeding off again. I like the pace; I like the energy in this track. It’s a solid opener and bound to be a crowd pleaser, one of those songs that will get you up. This is one band I for one will be keeping my eye on
