Formed in 2018,  The Vonics are a five-piece Power Pop Rock band from Dudley in the West Midlands. By crossing over multiple genres and weaving them together to form their own kind of noise, The Vonics are an upbeat Alternative / Power Pop Rock band with a big passion for writing and recording their own music. The line-up consists of Scott Robinson (Vocals), Mark Hancox (Lead Guitar/Backing Vocals), Chris Dixon (Guitar), John Webb (Bass) and Mark Oliver (Drums), principal songwriters are Scott and Mark.

Their songs bring energy and excitement and have been described as “when Primal Scream meets Slade” and “a nod to the halcyon days of nineties Brit Pop”. They released their debut EP in 2020, featuring the singles, ‘Within My Soul’ and ‘She’s on Fire’. Both of which received national airplay on stations such as BBC Introduces, Planet Rock and Union Jack. Wolverhampton Wanderers FC also used Within My Soul on several of their fan videos, much to the delight of a few of the members, who are big Wolves fans.

Their latest EP ‘The World can wait’ was released on 2nd September 2022 and comes on the back of two previous released singles Hypnotic and Goodbye both of which feature. Inspired by the 70’sclassic rock sound infused with 90’s rock and Britpop, the Vonics versatility knows no bounds and this shines through with their latest release.

The opening track ‘Nothing to Gain’ is a Glam rock stomper from the get go, hints of Sabbath possibly, heavy on guitar riffs, thunderous bass and a battering drum pattern, it’s a 100mph sonic ride, like the lyrics state “Gonna ride on a hurricane” and that’s what it feels like. Power packed, punchy and in your face. What could be better!

Next up is ‘The Drugs Can Do’ conforming with the rock feel, it packs a punch, packed with chugging rhythm guitar and a fantastic rock vocal with added growl it does what it says on the tin, except music is the drug this time. Soaring solos and driving bass and drums carry this track along at a fair old pace. Its classic rock with a modern twist.

A change of pace next with ‘Hypnotic’ and it lives up to its title. A song about obsession with Mark on the vocals this time. Melodic opening riffs infused with a fantastic almost bluesy solo backed yet again with the rich resonating bass and pounding drums. A step back from the previous tracks, it allows you to catch your breath. The vocal is powerful, passionate and smooth. It is a summer tune this one, with rousing guitar fills it builds to a crescendo with the chorus. Full of melodies, and glorious solos it leaves you wanting more

‘Luck Comes Around’ is another stomper, it has a real bluesy southern country rock feel brought forward to today, yet again packed full of expertly delivered guitar riffs and solos and the vocal carries the track forward, yet another great song.

The penultimate track is ‘Sing The Blues Away’ , it has a bouncy drum beat, upbeat and again catchy, a different vibe yet again but still packed full of melodies and drive. It picks up pace as the strong progresses, driven by punchy guitar hooks.

Finally, we have ‘Goodbye’ a fitting end to this EP. A completely different vibe, the introduction of the a horn section gives an almost soulful feel to the track. A song about breaking free from the chains that hold you back. Its bright, energetic and catchy, almost addictive. Its another summer anthem, with shimmering guitars and a real groove laden swing, it has a real singalong feel and is sure to brighten anyone’s day.

So…to close, The Vonics have released a magnificent EP here, if you like your music to pack a punch, infusing classic British Rock with the modern day without taking anything away then this is for you. Musically its perfect, each member delivering on point. Vocally its immense, Scott’s vocal reminds me in a way of the Late Bon Scott in both energy and tone yet it has an emotive element and fits perfectly. Lyrically all songs are relatable. A fantastic EP and I can’t wait to hear more from these guys.
