Hi and welcome to the Awayday Radio interview where each week we will be interviewing new and up and coming bands and artists from the UK.

This week we have Gazelle.

Hiya Guys firstly thanks for letting Awayday Radio interview you!

Please introduce us to the band.

We’ve got me(Ryan) on vocals and guitar. Ben Gooch on guitar. Sorbi on bass and Danny on drums.

What first got you into music?

My grandad was a teddy boy and my dad a scooter boy so I’ve always exposed to the music of different subcultures through them. I’d go on a lot of scooter rallies when I was a young ‘un so I’d see a load of bands and music from a young age of all sorts of genres. From ska and soul to punk, psychobilly and rockabilly.

Who inspired you to make music?

I picked up a guitar at about 13 years old but took it more seriously not long after when I started knocking about with other bands around Leicester. I used to go around the country with a band called The Heroes and helped them set guitars up etc which gave me a taste for it.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

Anthemic rock and roll bangers.

Have you signed with a record label?

No, we haven’t. We release everything ourselves. We do our own thing to be honest. We’re quite detached from everything else going on in the music industry.

Where have you performed?

We’ve done a couple of tours and festivals around the country and headlined the 02 in our hometown, Leicester. We did fancy a few gigs in Europe but the lockdown etc put a stop to that.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

We’ve got nothing planned yet. We don’t see the point till we know we can get something sorted and it’ll definitely go ahead so we’re focusing on writing at the moment. There’s a load of good tunes flowing out at the minute.

What is your favourite song to perform?

I haven’t really got a favourite to be honest but I suppose the newest songs are always the ones you enjoy playing the most just because it’s fresh so it’s enjoyable to play.

What other songs or albums have you done?

We did an EP called Young Blood and also have a couple of singles out.

Which famous musicians do you admire and why?

I’m a big Dylan and Beatles fan myself. Mainly 50s or 60s musicians. I’m not into ‘admiring’ musicians that are still about to be honest. Haha!

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Just that we hope to have a few beers with em soon!

I got to ask this but what football teams do you support?

I and Danny are Leicester fans. Sorbi and Ben support Peterborough United. There are a few references to both our teams on the cover of the Young Blood EP.

What casual gear do you all wear?

I tend to go for a 60s look these days but I do like CP and Aquascutum. Danny wears a bit of stone island and I know Sorbi has a few nice Lacoste bits among others. Ben loves Diadora and his prized Birkenstocks. I don’t get it myself but he said he loves the breeze on his toes. Fuck knows.

What’s next for you?

We were due to record a new EP so hopefully we can get back on with that as soon as possible and announce another tour to go with it. It’s a shame we’ve had to delay it as there’s some massive tunes on there and a nice progression coming on with our sound.

Well, here at Awayday Radio we are big fans of yours so we will follow you on your journey to the top and we hope that you will come back and do another interview with us after you finish your world tour?

Haha. Nice one! Yeah anytime!
