Formed whilst studying in Leeds Conservatoire in October last year San Francisco released their debut single ‘Know Me Better’ on 23rd September 2022. Since forming they have performed live shows with This Feeling and Scruff Of The Neck, their very first headline show is coming up on 27th October 2022 at Leeds Oporto with support from Uncoof Youth and Lunar Vertigo, this coincides with the release of their debut EP.
With a wide range of influences from the likes of Kings Of Leon to bands Vistas and Holler. San Francisco are Iwan Grant (Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Matt Cross (Lead Guitar), Ned Forster (Drums) and Rob Crosby Bass) Originally a one-man project (Iwan), they have moved on, developed and become the four piece they are today.
Here know me better sets off at pace, with jangly guitars and a steady pounding drum beat, it’s filled with melodies and layers of complexity. Its bright, energetic and yet its not in your face but it has attitude. It’s a solid indie anthem that will definitely get you singing along.
“A solid indie anthem”
Iwan’s vocal is almost hushed, gentle yet has an air of authority It’s a great contrast in sound, intertwining with the more frenetic instrumental that rattles and rolls underneath., With backing vocals and Oh Oh Oh’s during the chorus “I think you’d like me Honey, if you knew me better” I can see this been a great live song and one that will get a crowd going. The song builds and builds as it progresses, the underlying drum beat is a real stomper, whilst chiming tones from the guitars add more layers and colour.
“A great contrast in sound”
The lyrics give the impression that it’s a song about relationships or a relationship, where the subject has a thing for someone that’s not reciprocated and wishes that person would try and get to him/her better. Simple, honest and to the point.
“A stomping beat”
This is a strong opener from San Francisco, accomplished, skilled and sure to be a crowd favourite when performed live. It’s got a stomping beat that will shake the floor whilst the soaring guitars and chiming melodies will lift the rafters. With an EP coming out soon, this is just a flavour of what these lads have to offer and I am sure that they will be a firm favourite with indie fans out there.
