By Daffs (TwoDaff)

After the release of the hugely successful Albums ‘From The Far Field’‘Escape Routes’ and ‘Forever Roses’ (Review Here) along with the follow up single ‘Passion Play’, Midlands based singer songwriter Jay Tennant returns with his latest cinematic track ‘Neo Noir’.

The title has a cheeky wink at ‘The Matrix’; lyrically, the song celebrates inclusion and diversity, and Jay’s muse conjures up Hollywood references to Monroe and Lucille Ball. ‘Neo Noir’ has it all and lays down a clear marker for how strong Jay Tennant’s up-and-coming 4th solo album will be.

“A cinemascope of sound”

As always Jay has an uncanny and enviable knack of turning music into a full-on sensory experience, a cinemascope of sound, its an almost visual experience through his music and that for me has to be applauded. The success of his previous releases and indeed this latest track showcases the undeniable talent this man has. A true artist!

“Passion and intensity”

As with everything Jay does, high energy passion and intensity are at the forefront and there is no change here. Opening with a foot stomping and relentless drum beat supporting a bass line with Blistering guitar riffs that shine throughout adding a shimmer that lays the foundations for jays unmistakable vocal. Lyrically it paints a picture, expressive and emotive and delivered with intense passion.  Another powerful, anthemic track with a soundscape that would fill a stadium.

“A soundscape that would fill a stadium”

This is a technicolour journey as the vocal changes as does the texture and colour, beginning at the dark blue end of the spectrum and as the pre chorus starts you begin to hit the neon pinks. Anthemic and bright Dum da da dums, an almost terrace like chant leads you to an explosion of sound for the chorus.  The passion and energy in the heartfelt vocal during the chorus screams at you driven by crashing drums and soaring synths. It’s a power packed statement.

“A technicolour journey”

If this song is anything to go by then the up and coming fourth album will be an epic. The music is fantastic yet it I find with all Jays tracks that there is so much more, multi layered, almost busy yet it blends and fuses perfectly. it’s a visual experience also.  Jay has a unique style and sound and that has to be commended, you cannot fit him into a specific genre, he draws influences from everywhere but that’s all they are influences. Each and every track is like a moving picture, a journey, a story, you feel part of the song and almost immersed within it. Jay Tennant has once again delivered an absolute gem of a track.
