I Don’t Get It – THIS IS WAR!

After the release of their single ‘Pyramids’ earlier this year, Merseyside indie rock 5 piece THIS IS WAR! return with yet another banger, their 9th, living up to the promise of a release every month for 2022 with an album to be released in the Autumn. The band consists of former Black Velvets frontman Paul Carden (Vocals), Mike Mullard (Rhythm and Backing Vocals), Jonny Roberts (Lead Guitar), Martin Leah (Drums) and Andy Williams (Bass. All tracks recorded and mixed by Si Jones of The Verve and Crash Studios Andy Farnihough.

Their latest single ‘I Don’t Get It’ carries on true to their style and sound filled with huge guitar riffs, huge energetic vocals and anthemic lyrics creating a sound that instantly hooks and knocks you on your back. Their aim is to raise the bar with every release and, true to their word they are achieving this.

Having reviewed ‘Pyramids’ (Read It Here) and being sold on their sound and vibe last month I was eagerly anticipating this latest track, and it doesn’t disappoint in any way. Opening with a spiky, jagging guitar hook broken by a statically charged descending solo, it has the feel of the late 70’s early 80’s new wave/punk era, (a hint of the Clash possibly), but as the rhythmic bass and drums power in it merges into a sound that’s relevant for today.

It is very catchy, upbeat and the intro hook and descending solo continues throughout providing a backdrop for the powerful energetic vocal. There is a lot going on underneath, filled with short little licks and leads adding texture and giving further edge. Energetic as always, the chorus is anthemic, the type of chorus that will have a crowd roaring back. I get a hint of strokes with modern indie twist. The vocal hits the spot in so many ways, its almost begging, desperate, filled with passion.

It is a definite earworm; I have had the tune in my head for days. The energy within the track builds to a driving solo, backed by pounding drums and thundering bass lines, this drives on to the end capped off with that raw, powerful vocal.

This track, for me is their best yet, I like the feel, its catchy, packed full of rhythm, punchy guitars with blistering hooks and leads that add an element of surprise. The vocal is immense and really drives the song on so you are singing away by the time chorus hits you. THIS IS WAR!
