Hailing from Leicester, The Mercians formed in 2021 and after a financial setback, one that inspired them to battle on and write about it, they released their debut single ‘Dreamseller’ – a tale of an industry professional that conned the lads out of £8000. Their first live original music video – ‘Scum Like Us’ – is a nod to the working class strugglers.
The band sold out their first live gig and went on to support The Skinner Brothers and headlining Glastonbudget festival. They were then offered a gig at the 450 capacity O2 Academy in Leicester. In addition, they have been offered the opening slot on the mainstage at next year’s Glastonbudget festival. They have also featured on BBC Radio Leicester.
Taking their influences from the likes of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Foals and Sam fender, this is music, politics and hardcore partying rolled into a band of talented musicians. The Mercians are fast becoming one of the emerging talents in the UK indie music scene.
The Mercians are set to release their new single ‘Just Like You’ on November 4th 2022. A track about the human struggle against addiction, whether it’s drugs, alcohol or even social media platforms.
“A fantastic vocal”
Straight away you are hit with a fantastic vocal, melodic and emotive backed with a catchy drum and bassline and a delicate synth adding a splash of colour. The whole thing is clean and crisp, catchy guitar hooks add a vibrant upbeat feel giving it an added lift. It’s a real foot tapper.
“A vibrant upbeat feel”
The subject is relevant to today’s society, “Cos everybody’s tryin to find their thing, don’t know where they fit in” further confirms what they are trying to say. The whole thing has an almost soulful feel emphasised in the delivery of the vocal and added harmonies.
“An authentic sound”
Guitars shimmer throughout with solo licks that give an added embellishment making the instrumental soar. The Mercians sound is refreshing, its vibrant and its clean, its not a track that’s filled with heavy driven guitars or pummelling drums, yet it has drive and energy throughout. This track is sure to be a hit with fans and newcomers to the band alike.
They have an authentic sound with honest relevant lyrics matched with accomplished musicianship, having already taken the Midlands by storm its clear that these lads are going to be a force to be reckoned with. Watch this space!
