The Azurescens are a Four-piece indie/rock band from Livingston, West Lothian in Scotland. Formed in late 2020 band members are Gaz (Rhythm Guitar and Vocals) Andy (Lead Guitar and Vocals) Brian (Bass and Vocals) and Jai (Drums). The band take their name from a type of psychedelic mushroom that they saw online and thought it would be a cool band name. The band collectively have a varied list of musical influences from Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix and heavy rock which can be heard in the variety of their own original songs.
After forming, the band have spent the last 2 years practicing and fine tuning a set of songs that have been going down a storm in the limited gigs they have done so far. They first took to the stage at the Midnight Breakfast Club in Bathgate at the end of June for their sold-out debut show, since then they have played at the Dove hill arms in Uphall and also performed on the main stage in the Regal theatre in Bathgate as part of a two-day music festival for local bands.
The band have just released their first studio single ‘Middle of Nowhere’ on 4th November and also have a gig booked in at a local venue Purple Orange in Bathgate on the 19th November. Going forward the band are looking to play more gigs and record more songs from there ever-growing list of songs and have already started the recording process for their next release.
“A bold soundscape”
Opening with a deep resonating bass line that continues through the track and provides a platform for the rest of the band. Pounding drums crash in alongside swirling guitars adding a shimmer that in turn create a bold soundscape for the powerful vocal to takeover.
“Open honest Rock n Roll”
Its bold, infusing elements from all their influences, you have that classic old school indie vibe yet there is an injection of their heavier influences creating a unique sound. Classic rock lead solo’s add an extra punch, packed with drive and soaring licks. Its open honest Rock n Roll. There is an almost dark foreboding feel yet its bright and full of drive with energetic choruses and great melodies.
“A unique sound”
Its clear these lads have been honing their skills, it has a really accomplished feel, I like the heavier, darker elements, deep bass lines brightened by the stabbing licks provided by the guitars which at times reach out and grab you pulling you in and leave you wanting more. An impressive debut this. These are definitely ones to watch in my opinion, give em a listen.
