Smokin Eskimo are a 3-piece originals bands from Bilston, West Midlands. Combining a blend of blues & rock styles, they cater for a wide range of listeners. Their lyrical content covers many aspects of modern life; from deep thoughts of the universe to taking a drive through the Countryside. These are complimented well by a solid backline and memorable, somewhat exciting riffs to get you on your feet.

The band are heavily influenced by 60’s psychedelic rock and blues, 90’s Britpop with a smattering of jazz and funk. This gives Smokin Eskimo a multi-genre sound that doesn’t allow them to fall into one specific category.

Smokin Eskimo released their 4th single ‘English Meadow’ on 22nd July 2022 following on from ‘Magic Bill’ released in December 2021. Other releases include ‘Nature’ and ‘Dynamite’. Since then, the band have been focussed on gigging around the Midlands and as far afield as Sheffield, Whitchurch and Aberystwyth. Chris, Jim and Jake are now concentrating on writing new songs to continue the streak with a few more live shows after spending 2022 playing countless gigs and festivals.

The are now set to release their 5th single ‘For The Moment’, on all streaming platforms on September 30th 2022. It was recorded at Foel Studio in Welshpool, Wales with Mike Bew back in May. The band will also be back recording new tunes at Foel Studio in October, with the intention of releasing another single before 2022 is over. Plans for an EP next year is also in the pipeline.

For the moment has a really upbeat feel, opening with a rolling guitar riff with a 90’s Britpop vibe. Hints of oasis and roll with it..stripped back and without the snarl yet delivering the same message. The vocal kicks in, it’s bright, crisp and clean and just shines. This is a song that will lift you, blow away the Autumnal gloom and take you back to the heady days of summer. Having a beer outside under the shade of an old apple tree.

“Bright, crisp and clean”

It’s a song about having no worries about what’s going on now or what’s going to happen in the future, just live for now. As the chorus suggests “I’m just living for the moment cos Like a feather caught in the wind, I’m just floating away” Why worry, kick back and just be!

“An added 60’s edge”

The bass and drums kick in and add texture to the proceedings and keep things rolling along nicely with the underlying guitar riff that adds a shimmer. The one thing that really makes it me is the little harmonica melodies and fills, bluesy and give an added 60’s edge. The guitar solo, smooth and silky lifts the track again.

“Uplifting and refreshing”

I really like this track, it’s what I like, as a fan of Britpop and the 60’ssound. The whole feel is uplifting, great melodies, a fantastic vocal, happy go lucky lyrics and all delivered perfectly. For me this is their best release to date. Their songs are a modern look at life delivered in a way that’s uplifting and refreshing. A breath of fresh air in my opinion, none of this moody indie vibe that you sometimes get. Smokin Eskimo are really Livin for the moment…yet the future looks bright for these lads!
