12/1 – DMA’S to release Brixton Academy Live Album

Indie’s favourites DMA’S have announced that they will release their triumphant gig at London’s famous Brixton Academy.

March 6th, 2020. A sold-out audience fills the O2 Academy Brixton’s cavernous space from wall-to-wall. The lights go down, the crowd erupts into a chant and DMA’S tear into their opening song ‘Feels Like 37’ accompanied by 5000 voices passionately singing along to its killer hook. The band are playing the biggest headline show of their career to date half a planet away from home, yet have conjured the atmosphere of an intimate homecoming celebration.

What follows is a show that will live long in the memories of the band and their fans alike. From early favourites ‘In The Air’ and ‘Lay Down’ to new material such as ‘Silver’ and ‘Life Is A Game Of Changing’ from their hugely successful third studio album ‘THE GLOW’ (which hit #4 in the UK and #2 in Australia), the band, extended from the core trio to a sextet for live performances, inspire a rapturous reception. The show will be documented in the ‘Live at Brixton’ album, which will be released almost a year to the day later on March 5th.

‘Live at Brixton’ will be released on a striking smoke-effect pink/orange limited edition double vinyl (pre-order here) that also offers an essential souvenir of the event. Its design was inspired by a flare that was set off during the show. It will also be released digitally.

The O2 Academy Brixton show was immediately hailed as one of the highlights of the band’s career so far, and it has taken on whole new significance given the events that have followed. For many fans, it was their final show before live music events were halted.

09/01 – Keep Fit with Bez during the third Lockdown

2020 was a strange year, 2021 is starting off just as crazy and now takes another early twist from Happy Monday‘s Bez who will be doing fitness videos on YouTube.

The ‘Freaky Dancer’ who is more used to shaking the maracas is now looking to shake some weight off after admitting to gaining a lockdown bulge.

“I’ve started this new year seriously unfit, with a fat belly and creaky hips, and I can’t stop eating chocolate.

“Last lockdown I got unfit, fat, lazy and into some seriously bad eating habits.

“This year, this lockdown, I need to sort it out sharpish.
“People can join in on this mad journey or just sit on the sofa and have a good laugh at me.
“At the very least, I know I’ll be making people smile, at best I’ll be helping people get fit and mentally happier alongside me.“
Get Buzzin’ With Bez’ will launch Sunday 17th January on YouTube.

05/01 – The Lathums unveil ‘Foolish Parley’ video

meet Joker on the seafront as the buoyant four-piece embrace the surreal in the widescreen video for ‘Foolish Parley’.

Wordy and worldy indie four-piece, The Lathums, land somewhere between Bowie’s famous stroll across East Sussex sands in Ashes To Ashes, the heart-stopping catatonia of Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker and the monochrome menace of A Clockwork Orange in the absorbingly surreal, widescreen promo for their track, ‘Foolish Parley’. Cut to a distinctly conceptual, arthouse feel in deep black and white and interspersed with live footage from beneath the baroque splendour of Blackpool Tower, the Wigan band reveal their theatrical poise with brooding, poker-faced performances in full, rain-smudged make-up.
The growling, tremelo-warped ‘Foolish Parley’ originally appeared on The Lathums’ Ghost EP in October.
Frontman Alex Moore says:
“Being honest, this just came to me out of nowhere, I can’t pinpoint from exactly where or why. Like a lot of songs, it was something that flowed freely, working first time and, sometimes, it takes no more thinking about than that.”

Lead singer Paul Smith describes the upbeat single as a love song,
“It’s also about domesticity and family life being a valid subject matter for a pop song. The more intimate verses are bits of advice to someone who has changed your perspective on life. Big themes!”
The video to accompany the single has many influences to reflect the feel of the single Smith explains,
“Both the quiet verses and the anthemic choruses are reflected (pun intended) in the video, which was influenced by an intimate film of Arthur Russell playing the cello, as well as Bruce Lee flighting within a hall of mirrors in Enter The Dragon!”

15/01 – Jake Bugg shares special Franky Wah remix of ‘All I Need’

Jake Bugg has shared a special remix version of his soul stomper ‘All I Need’. The rework comes from Franky Wah.

‘All I Need’ was a big curveball from Bugg last October, seeing the Nottingham Troubadour pull off a style more expected from the likes of Plan B and Tom Grennan. The direction was no doubt influenced after Bugg’s collaboration with DJ producer duo CamelPhat on ‘Be Someone’ which featured on CamelPhat‘s debut album ‘Dark Matter’ (See the video below). This ‘All I Need’ remix confirms that Jake Bugg has taken a lot away from the collaboration too.
