Following the release of their brand new single ‘HEY’ I caught up with exciting up and coming Wolverhampton 4-piece watermark to find out a bit more about the lads behind the music.

So first of all, introduce yourselves for us who are you and who’s In the band?

We’re Watermark, a 4-piece rock band from Wolverhampton. Our band consists of primary songwriters: Andrew Bateman (lead vocals, co-lead guitar) and Sam Whitehouse (bass, backing vocals) alongside Cameron Allsebrook (co-lead guitar) and Sam ‘Ping-Pong’ Horobin (drums). For reference, Ping-Pong got his nickname because he’s very good at table tennis…

How and when did the band get together?

It’s a long story. The band formed in September 2018, and Andrew is the only existing original member left. He started off as the lead guitarist, and Cameron Allsebrook joined in July 2019, after answering an advertisement for a rhythm guitarist. By January 2020, Andrew and Cameron were the only 2 members of the band who decided to continue after a disagreement. Andrew took on the role as frontman, and Sam Whitehouse joined as bassist after finding an advertisement on social media. After a series of unsuccessful drummers, Ping-Pong was recommended to Andrew via a mutual friend. After auditioning, he joined the band in May 2021.

If you could have been alive and released music in any other era which era would you choose and why?

The 1960’s. It’s the best era of all time, and as far as I’m concerned, I doubt it’ll ever be topped.

Which band member is most likely to get the others into trouble?

Probably Cam after a drink or two, or six… he’s not exactly rational

on his best days, I’m sure he’d agree.

What is the best gig you have played so far as a band and why?

We played a show at a club in Bilston in May 2019. We put the show on ourselves and we ended up in 300 people turning up, and almost resulted in the gig being called off due to a fire hazard. We brought everything with us, we even had one of our younger brothers friends to do the sound check. It was hands down the funniest gig we’ve ever done

What is the song writing process for the band do you write together or is someone in charge of lyrics someone else in charge of melody ect?

Andrew and Sam are the bands two songwriters. They’ll write songs completely separate, but they’ll come together at the end of it to throw ideas to each other and suggest lyric changes/musical changes (etc.)

Do you all share similar tastes in music or does it vary throughout the band and if so, how do you think it affects your overall sound as band?

Yeah, our music tastes are all pretty similar. We’re all huge fans of the Beatles, they serve as our band’s biggest inspiration by a country mile. We’re all big fans of 60’s rock n roll, that’s probably the era of music which we’re all mutual fans of, but each member of the band does go off on their little tangents

You can go down the pub for a pint with one musician dead or alive who are you choosing?

· Andrew and Sam – Paul McCartney of the Beatles

· Cam – Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys

· Ping-Pong – John Lennon of the Beatles

Describe your sound in one word GO…

Good.

I’m aware that ones open for debate but if you download our latest

track and I’m sure you’ll agree.
