James Shead Band
James Shead is a Rock/Americana artist and Singer/Songwriter based in Cornwall. Through his high energy live shows, his sound has been described as a “folk rock hybrid” and as a “gravel voiced singer songwriter not afraid to share his own experiences through his music”. It was this honest song writing that helped him emerge as a festival favourite throughout the UK. His songs are stories, penned from experiences of his own and those around him.
He released his new ‘City in lights’ EP in July 2021. Recorded with John Cornfield, this is a collection of new songs written throughout the summer of 2020 when the country was in lockdown. The songs touch on moments of love, relationships and spending time with the people that truly matter. This EP shows James and his band mature in their song writing and a new direction, but still retaining the signature sound James is known for.
Smooth, soulful and beautifully elegant, ‘City in Lights’ flows effortlessly from track to track, Shead’s stunning vocals sounding effortless yet energetic over hauntingly simple, uncomplicated, guitar rhythms. A definite hint of a country sound accompanies a contemporary folk feel across this album while Shead’s voice lends itself to the rockier elements in tracks such as the rock ballad ‘Everything’.
A mid-tempo acoustic-driven rock EP, ‘City in Lights’ is a delicate yet powerful release full of anthemic beats and lyrics. It has a very personal, intimate feel which strikes just the right notes between chilled and upbeat.
