By Daffs (TwoDaff)

Based in Glasgow, new band on the scene Hazy Sundays were formed in August 2022. The consist of Shaun Kenny (Vocals and Rhythm guitar), Mark Devlin (Lead Guitar), Ross Mcdonald (Bass) and Peter Millar (Drums).

The band have a love for old school Rock n Roll and 90’s Britpop with a variety of influences ranging across the genres and this shines through in their music. The band styles itself on high energy rock n roll with meaningful lyrics.

The Hazy Sundays have their first gig in Edinburgh on Saturday 10th of December at Sneaky Pete’s nightclub supporting Treble Helix and cannot wait to get out and play live and hope to be gigging as much as possible hoping 2023 will be a big year for them. In the meantime, they are writing and rehearsing non-stop.

“A punk edge with a Britpop undertone”

They have just released their debut single ‘Never Know’ on 28th October 2022, instantly you are hit with an energetic guitar riff that hooks you, its got a punk edge with a Britpop undertone. The opening riff has a Sex Pistols feel which I personally like…who doesn’t like the Pistols. Pounding drums and a solid bass line give it bite.

“A blistering energetic barnstormer”

The vocal is strong and Shaun spits the lyrics with added venom and aggression, it’s a real blistering energetic barnstormer, the fuzz and distortion from the guitars give an edgy backdrop whilst the drums keep driving the song forward. Even though it sides on the punkier side of rock there are plenty of melodies within the vocal and is delivered in a Gallagher-sque manner.

“Screams attitude, energy and drive”

The whole track builds to a crescendo with a cool lead solo adding further drive and energy, yet it’s packed with melody and just soars before the vocal kicks in for a grand finale of pure rushing energy. This is a fantastic debut single from The Hazy Sundays, I would go as far as to say one of the best debuts this year. It doesn’t conform to the usual indie/Britpop sound (although it is in there) it screams attitude, energy and drive. It’s hard hitting and yet its unique. Turn this one up as far as you can, it’s got to be loud. I am really excited about this band and cant wait to see what else they have planned for the future. Sundays won’t be hazy from now on!
