Hi and welcome to the Awayday Radio interview where each week we will be interviewing new and up and coming bands and artists from the UK.

Hiya Guys firstly thanks for joining us at Awayday Radio.  Please introduce us to the band.

To start with…Its a pleasure to be interviewed for awayday radio. We are two-thirds of Northern Revelation, Darrel Ashton Singer/lead guitar and songwriter…John Lloyd, The beast on Bass.

What first got you into music?

(Darrel) For me it was my dad that got me into music, he took me to The Stone Roses Spike Island soundcheck as a nine-month-old. It was always going to happen. (John) It was watching my cousin that first got me into music, Got a bass for Xmas, ran down to his to join his band and he told me to do one, I cleaned that up a bit for this interview.

Who inspired you to make music?

(Darrel) For me, it was listening to The Stone Roses John Squire and The Smiths Johnny Marr on Guitar. .(John) I love John Lennon so I’m going to say him.

How would you describe your music?

(Darrel) It’s guitar-based indie music, musically definitely Manchester inspired, vocally more Liverpool inspired maybe, The La’s and Cast John Power.

Are you signed to a label?

(Darrel) We are unsigned at the minute, however, if there is anyone out there looking for a new band, you know where we are.

Where have you performed?

(Darrel) We have performed all over Liverpool, also played in Manchester and our home town St Helens. (Darrel) I think Jimmy’s In Liverpool is a belting venue, the sound system and the lights there are spot on. We also had a great home gig at The Vine Tavern in Thatto Heath, big local turn out for that one and The la’s Barry Sutton jumped on the bill with us for that.

What are your favourite and least favourite venues?

(Darrel) There have been better receptions at some venues than others, but anywhere that gives new bands a chance to play live is sound by us.

Do you have any upcoming shows?

This Covid thing has kinda slowed things down a bit, plus we have been in the Recording Studio, our New single History has already had Radio airtime in Manchester and out In Los Angeles thanks to the legendary Rodney Bingenheimer, we owe Rodney a lot, he always plays our songs. History is due for release 00.01 UK time, 23/10/202 on all streaming platforms.

What is your favourite song to perform?

(Darrel) I think playing live, I would have to say Divide And Rule, it’s the opener and a proper in your face tune. .(John) For me it’s Radon, it gets the crowd going and has a real vibe about it.

What other songs or albums have you done?

We have released, Shine Like A Star, Divide And Rule, (demo), This Could Be, that has a Marr guitar feel, Back In Your Box, Look Inside, and later this month History, all these songs can be found all the usual streaming platforms and youtube as well.

Which famous musicians do you admire and why?

(Darrel) For me, as previously stated I had a love of The Stone Roses, The Smiths, Oasis, The La’s Cast, Shed Seven The Beatles Echo And The Bunnymen. Most of the above were kids from council estates making the music they loved. .(John) yeah I agree with Darrel plus a few others, but we will keep them up our sleeves for future interviews with you.

What is one message you would give to your fans?

Advice? Don’t wear brown shoes with black kecks.

I got to ask this but what football teams do you support?

(Darrel) Liverpool. (John) Everton.

What casual gear do you all wear?

(Darrel) I like the Osti label, CP Company and The Osti inspired Ma Strum, but if it looks right and feels right I will wear it. Gary Aspden has been on it lately some of the Spezial releases have been smart. Got to be the three stripes for trainers and Clarks for shoes. (John) Fred Perry for me and of course Adi for the trabs.

What’s next for you?

We have just finished filming a promo for History, so when that drops we will be busy trying to get that out to as many people as possible. (John) Hopefully some of the gigs we had lined up before all you know what happened will come off, we had a major promotions company make us an offer with a gig, fingers crossed that will come off.

Well, here at Awayday Radio we are big fans of yours so we will follow you on your journey to the top and we hope that you will come back and do another interview with us after you finish your world tour?

(Darrel) Northern revelation would like to thank Awayday radio for giving us this platform and we wish you well for the Future… Up Tha Revelation.
