Pocket Lint Releases ‘Themes for Silcaville’

Pocket Lint is a solo artist working in London. As the name suggests, after many years spent as part of a band, Pocket Lint, A.K.A Mark, walked away with a plethora of ideas and songs that had never been used – the musical debris to his artistic pocket if you will. As a former punk/new wave guitarist, he has recently started moving in an increasingly electronic direction while embarking on a solo career.

His most recent release, ‘Themes for Silcaville’ is a concept album – the soundtrack to an imaginary film that has never been written. Having read in depth about Barry Adamson’s ‘Moss Side Story’ album, the thought that he had always fancied writing a soundtrack struck a chord, and so it seemed that lockdown was just the opportunity Pocket Lint had been waiting for.

The sounds themselves are inspired by John Carpenter’s early work Moroder and Vangelis’ Blade Runner soundtrack. While the narrative is self-explanatory and suggests itself through the twists and turns of the music, Pocket Lint describes the theme as follows: ‘’Set in a futuristic city run by arcane guilds, a stranger is invited in to investigate the disappearance of prominent locals. All of them are connected to the guilds, but can the stranger unravel the mystery or will the city shatter him like glass? Cue the music …’’

A truly ethereal work, the atmosphere of the music ebbs and flows with each new chord and key change, reeling you in as the sound envelops the senses. The contrast between light and dark, jollity and melancholy between each song is breath-taking and leaves you balancing on the edge of polarised realities, unsure where the next plot twist will take you. Honest, raw and emotive vocals set the pieces off perfectly and transport you to another world.
