FREESPIRITS are a rock band from London/UK, formed by brothers Giancarlo & Lucas Mariani, ex-members of Britpop band Hurricane #1 (Creation Records) and drummer Kris Lousley. They create their own blend of alternative rock with dirty guitar riffs, acid lyrics, heavy beats, and catchy melodies; oozing loads of attitude, self-belief and high-energy. Influences range from classic 90s bands like Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins and Oasis to more recent post-hardcore/punk rock underground groups like Basement, Citizen and Title Fight. Mix Britpop, Grunge & modern Alt Rock and you’ll get a rough idea of what they’re about.

They released  a new single aptly named ‘Rolling with the Punches’ on the 9th of September and it’s the last single before the release of their highly-anticipated album “Into the Upside Down” due for release later this year. During the making of this album, which  started in 2019 they have gone through a number of difficulties, missing files, family bereavements, Covid and believe it or not noise complaints. (i can believe it…they are loud) This has led to the album being a recording of the journey taken to reach fruition.

They have supported Echo & The Bunnymen, Ride and played alongside Shed 7, Bluetones, Ash, Carl Barat, Funeral for a Friend and many more. They’ve been featured on BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio UK & USA, Islington Radio, Virgin Radio plus international radio stations all over the globe. Their biggest single ‘Always True’ has been featured on 3 official Spotify editorial playlists and has racked up almost 60,000 plays since last October.

“A message of positivity”

Now they’re back, stronger and hungrier than ever. Rolling with the punches typifies this band, the key being resilience, the act of not giving up and the art of remaining positive and keeping the faith despite all circumstances. Described by themselves as a high-energy punk rock banger full of feeling, adrenaline and a message of positivity and resilience for these tough times.

“Rip roaring punchy guitar riffs”

And they are not wrong, from the get go it powers off, pounding, pummelling drums, rip roaring punchy guitar riffs that chug, blister and burn through the ear drums. Its loud, brash and raucous. The guitars are well, just magnificent, thunderous and loud. They stab and jab at the senses. Everything is delivered with precision. Its hard, its heavy but most of all accomplished.

“Powerful, oozing experience, authority and skill”

The vocal as expected is powerful, oozing experience, authority and skill, with an aggressive edge. It has to be, competing with the rest of the band. I don’t about rolling with the punches, the vocal just punches and drives though the weight of the rest of the band. I don’t want to use the word catchy to describe the feel, but it hooks you, drags you in and hits you like a battering ram. Think Foo Fighters with indie attitude. I love it.

“High energy rock with attitude”

This track is full of adrenaline packed energy, leaving you breathless yet wanting more, just what music should be. Its not a moody indie track by any means, this track does what it says in the tin, lots of rolling with a barrage of punches. A quality track by a band that are accomplished. Their sound could fill any stage anywhere in the world. Their album should be immense and something to look out for in my opinion. So, if you like fast paced high energy rock with attitude, check these out.
