Welcome to the first of Awayday Radio’s Isolation Sessions. First up we have Sam Lambeth.
Combining the eclectic roots rock of Counting Crows, the big-hearted bristle of Bruce Springsteen and the country-tinged crunch of Tom Petty, Sam Lambeth is one of alternative music’s most promising and potent songwriters.
Over a decade-long career, Lambeth has enjoyed media exposure through NME, Kerrang! and Louder than War, as well as radio play on BBC Radio One and BBC 6 Music. As a performer, he has supported established acts including Evan Dando and The Lemonheads (respectively), The Bluetones and We Are Scientists, as well as critically lauded artists such as The Orielles, Bully and The Night Café.
His first band, The MonoBloggers, released two EPs between 2009 and 2012. Led by Lambeth, the four-piece showcased Lambeth’s now-established ear for melody, recalling the sparkling pop of R.E.M. and Teenage Fanclub. The MonoBloggers were hailed by NME as “grunge rock brilliance”, enjoyed UK tours and resulted in Lambeth playing his biggest gig – in front of 24,000 people at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Molineux Stadium in 2014.
In the summer of 2020, Lambeth worked with renowned producer Ryan Pinson (Riscas, The Jack Fletcher Band) on the first EP under his own name. The first taster from this record, ‘When Love Ain’t Enough’, received critical acclaim upon release, reaching a global audience and achieving over 50,000 streams.
The second single, ‘The King (You and Me)’ is out now and has once again enjoyed widespread praise.
