Sheffield indie rockers Sunset Collective are back with another summer anthem ‘One Too Many’ released on 22nd July.
Formed in 2019 the steel city 5 piece were thrown in at the deep end having no previous live experience at their debut gig at the O2 Academy main stage in Sheffield and are now selling out shows in Sheffield and beyond, delighting fans with their rock infused indie sound. Although their sound doesn’t conform to the ‘Usual’ moody indie sound, they have been gaining admirers with their range of sounds, from catchy summer anthems to explosive floor fillers that are sure to please any crowd.
“Catchy summer anthems to explosive floor fillers”
Having released a number of tracks since their formation, including bangers like ‘Corduroy and Broken Bones’ and ‘I Want You To Hit Me as Hard as You Can’ to the melodic ‘Shadow My Side’ and the softer edged ‘Happiness is a Hangover’ they won ‘best unsigned band or musician’ award at the Exposed Magazine awards. Proof of their credibility as a mature band.
All 5 band members have differing influences including hints of Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Fat White Family, difficult to narrow down as its merely a hint, that said it gives their tracks a different edge, you can’t say it’s one or the other giving them a unique yet intoxicating sound, each track draws you in and keeps you there.
So, to their latest track ‘One too Many’ “The song is about that time in your life when you are on that border line of wanting to settle down but still enjoying a mad one” according to the band. Opening with a pummelling drum beat, catchy bass line and lead riff it instantly hooks. It draws you in instantly and continues to roll throughout the track. Strong melodic poetic vocals take over, with hints of Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen, I personally like the tone and delivery. According to the band the chorus then swings it by looking at that significant other and thinking “even though I’m enjoying the mad ones I know I’d give it all up simply by upon looking at you” this further consolidated by the line “I’ve had one too many, I think I’ve found my reason. I’m saving you”
“Strong melodic poetic vocals”
One too many, is slick, its accomplished and explosive, filled with energy musically, the verses, chorus, mid sections take you in different directions, trying to make that decision, should I settle down and give up the party so to speak. I think most of us have been there ate one time or another. At the beginning it as an air of foreboding until the chorus kicks in, more uplifting and this continues. It’s filled with hooks, riffs and melody, it’s a sure-fire dancefloor filler and sure to get any crowd moving, this will be a great when played live. Personally, I think it’s their best track to date, and I know there is much more to come from these lads.
“A sure-fire dancefloor filler”
Sunset Collective are due to play at Barnsley Birdwell Venue, supporting The FutureHeads on 29th July followed by the YNOT? festival. Check them out.
