London based four piece The Skinner Brothers released their latest single ‘Away Days’, on 12th June across all digital formats via Blaggers  Records with digital distribution by Horus Music.

Having formed in 2018, the band quickly gained a loyal following. After touring with The Libertines, The Skinner Brothers went on to release their  debut single ‘Watchu’, which has since received over 475,000 Spotify streams. Another milestone for the band soon followed, as they supported Rat  Boy at Camden’s Electric Ballroom. The Skinner Brothers devoted fan base has grown significantly over the past 12 months, particularly on Spotify.  The band have achieved over 1,300,000 million streams on the platform, and this is due in part to their inclusion on editorial playlist such as Fresh  Finds, Hot New Bands, and The Punk List. The band’s latest headline show, which took place in February at The Stag’s Head Hoxton, sold out in 4  hours, and the band are eager to return to the stage as soon as they possibly can.

The band joined us at Awayday Radio for a little chat. Here’s what they had to say…

Hi Lads! Can you introduce yourselves and try and define your sound?

Ok so we have me Zachary Skinner on vocals and guitar, Chris Humphries on lead guitar, Ollie New on Bass and Alfie Clayton is our drummer. Our sound is a real mix, you can hear influences from many genres. We pull indie, rock, jazz, punk and more together to form our unique sound.

Are you actually brothers or are you named after the sadistic killers “The Skinner Brothers” in Red Dead Redemption?

Ha ha neither actually. When the band first formed my brother was the bassist. The band already had a following when Oliver replaced him so we continued with the name.

So are you all Millwall fans?

No we are a mix. I’m the Millwall fan which came after living and working around South East London.

Do you get to many games?

Yeah I try to, however it’s much harder now I’ve moved away from SE London. I managed to get to a few this season though.

Your new single “Awaydays” is a cracking single and has become our unofficial anthem here at Awayday Radio. What’s the backstory behind the tune?

Ah nice one thank you. I wrote it about football culture and pub life surrounding it.

Would you say you are heavily influenced by the football lad culture?

100%, as you can see by our style and writing a song about football. I like the unity that football brings and the clothing is pukka.

What are your musical influences?

The Clash, The Enemy, Oasis

What are you listening to at the moment and anything new you can recommend to us?

I would recommend JW Paris. They are signed to Blaggers Records who we have worked alongside to release Away Days.  I’ve known JW for years, they put on a great show.

How have you all coped with being in lockdown?

We’ve coped pretty well with it. Nothing has changed much for me really, my daily life before hand was writing and recording songs too. As you can see from some of our previous answers going to the pub is a big part of our lives so that’s been a bit annoying.

Any plans to tour once venues are finally allowed to re-open?

Yes we have big plans. We’ve made the decision to push back all gigs until 2021 which is a shame but looking like the best way to go about things at the moment. Everything is so up in the air right now for 2020.We will definitely be on tour in 2021 in all big UK cities.

Finally tell us something interesting about yourselves that not many people know?

I’ve got a cat called Money, named after T-Money from the TV show Storage Hunters!

Thanks for joining us lads and the best of luck with the new single “Awaydays”!!
