3 Little Wolves are an indie band from Birmingham, England signed to Deliberator Records. Paul (vocals, guitar), Corrinne (keyboards, samples), Leong (guitar), Dale (bass) and Khay (drums) came together after playing in various local bands to create something that sounds a little different – broadly indie but taking in a range of influences from trip-hop to dance, hard rock and synth pop.
Yes, they are an indie band, but they are unique, refreshing, with beautifully crafted songs, sometimes edgy, but heartfelt, full of melodies and glorious harmonies, with skilled song writing and gentle undertones incorporating synths, strings and samples which far outweigh the norm. I.e., Guitar fuelled indie rock. But don’t get me wrong, the guitars are still in there.
With over 12,000 followers across social media platforms, the band are fast gaining a reputation for their uniqueness and fantastic song writing. After sold-out gigs in Birmingham and Glasgow last year and with radio and TV appearances, gig and festival dates this year, it’s looking like 2022 is going to be the Year of the Wolf.
Following the critical and commercial success of their last single ‘Fractured (a bit)’ 3 Little Wolves release a sweeping, romantic single to soundtrack your summer. ‘Torch Song’ is released digitally on Friday 29th July and will be included on the band’s forthcoming LP ‘Fires in the Night’, to be released in October.
3 Little Wolves singer/guitarist Paul had this to say about ‘Torch Song’:
“Unrequited love is a tale as old as time- we wanted to capture that feeling when you feel something for someone but they don’t feel the same way. You almost end up like a ghost watching them from across rooms, silently resigning yourself to the fact that you will never be together.”
Almost the polar opposite of ‘Fractured (a bit) where being in an actual relationship isn’t easy, this one is of yearning, hope, an almost impossible love.
Taking their influences from the myriad of love songs over the years, Torch Song has an almost vintage feel about it, perhaps it’s the crackle of needle hitting some old vinyl at the start with acoustic and strings before the rest of the band come in, dreamlike, almost hazy and adorned with melodies, chiming guitars, and a keyboard line that adds just a bit of luxury.
“Chiming guitars, and a keyboard line that adds just a bit of luxury”
Lyrically its great, vocally its on the money, mournful, yearning almost begging, “See you shining on again, lighting up the room, and I want to get away, take me to the moon” It packs an emotional punch with the line “You never want to know me anymore”. It isn’t like other so called ‘Indie’ bangers, although you can hear remnants of indie bands of old but that’s where any likeness ends. Another unique track, everything sounds smooth, rich and atmospheric.
“It packs an emotional punch”
It’s clear to see that 3 little wolves don’t follow the norm, yes, they have their influences but you cannot liken them to anybody else, no soundalikes here, which I find refreshing. They know what they like and they do it. And this is to be applauded.
